Day 2- Letting Others In
Another major problem I have is allowing others to be there for me and letting them know things about me. I never talk about my personal problems and hardly ever show when things are wrong. However, I have become friends with someone new that is very open about her personal life when speaking to me. She always confides in me and she has really made me see how beneficial it is to let others in. Since becoming friends with her, I have opened up to her more and more. Today, something happened that will cause a major rift in my family. Being from a family of divorced parents, I have often been stuck in the middle of their problems. always forced to be the one to play the messenger. This has built up inside over the last 4 or 5 years, I cannot handle it anymore. I didn't know what to do and therefore I went to two of my best friends. Although I have only known them for a short time, B & R for about 2 months, I have really grown close to both of them. I was able to talk to the two of them about it and really come to a resolution on how I should handle the situation ahead of me. I realized that I can't just forget about things. I need to be able to talk to people. I am glad to see that I am not alone and that I have such great friends that are always there for me. The things you realize when you try something new!

Day 1- Making the first hard decision!
I have been feeling a lot of pressure lately to make up my mind about my future within an organization at my school. I am highly involved in the organization and elections will begin in the next few weeks. I have been contemplating my options recently and I think I have finally decided. Many individuals wanted me to run for President or Vice President. While these positions seemed attractive at first, I felt that they were more "administrative" and weren't making a direct difference on the school and organization. Those positions facilitate others making the difference. Therefore, I have looked further into the position on out Executive Board that serves as a liaison between our organization and the Regional and National Organizations of which we are affiliated with. This position has the opportunity to represent Rutgers in a professional way. This position allows you to be apart of the organization but also interact with others from around the country! I am so excited for the next few weeks to begin the processes of running for the position. We will see what happens!
November!
Now, when deciding what to use as my first challenge it became very obvious what I needed to work on. I have always been told that I am a very indecisive person and I 100% own up to it. I have always been that way. I am the person who tells you I don't want anything for my birthday and that I don't want anything, ever. The biggest challenge my friends and family pose to me is during the months of November and December when my birthday and Christmas are approaching. I almost never tell them anything to get me. Although this may sound silly and insignificant, I feel that being indecisive is hurting my development. I have decided to challenge myself to be more decisive on any and every issue facing my life and to work more on formulating how I feel about a particular issue and making my own decision, rather than going with the flow. Challenging myself to be more decisive this month is my goal!

Try Something New for 30 Days!
I attended a conference recently in which I participated in a session about Social Media, E-Learning, and other hot topics. Something that seemed insignificant at the time was a particular TED talk. (For those of you out there that are not familiar, please procede to the following website: www.ted.com ) We only watched a portion of it but after the conference, I went home and took the time to fully watch the video, and allow the video to have its impact. As an individual who would like to pursue a career in College Student Affairs or Higher Education (if unfamiliar with the field, read up & learn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_affairs ) I am very big on not only professional development but also personal development. I am now taking the time to pick things that could use improvement in my daily life and work on them. Every month I will pick a new task that I will complete everyday for a month. I know that this will be a challenge but I am determined to complete it. Hope you stick around and see how everything goes!
